Austin JOAD Archers' goal is to create an inspiring training and practicing environment for Junior Olympic Archers and FITA target archers. Since 1995, Alex and Racae Meyer have coached over 1,500 kids, including lots of Texas state and southern region champions, several national champions and one wonderful Paralympic bronze medallist! In March, 2008, together with other USA Archery instructors and the help of many JOAD parents, they created Austin JOAD Archers, to promote the sport of Olympic target archery. In August, 2008, Austin JOAD Archers qualified as an Austin Independent School District Off-Campus PE agency, meaning that kids in grades 7-12 can obtain PE credit for attending archery classes five hours per week. In September, 2008, AJA began their first Adult Training Program, called Austin Target Archers. This is a structured, and social, weekly meetup for those interested in Olympic target archery. In early March, 2009, Head Coach Alex Meyer was appointed as a Junior Dream Team (JDT) Coach by National Archery Coach Kisik Lee. He will be flying out to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista about every three months to coach the JDT. In late March, 2009, we created our first Outdoor Advanced Archery Program (OAAP), to train our advanced archers for the state and national target tournaments. On August 1, 2009, with the overwhelming agreement and support of the membership, Austin JOAD Archers and Austin Target Archers became part of Archery Training Center, Inc. In September, 2009, Coach Alex joined the UT faculty as a UT Archery Coach, where he will be working with the UT Archery Club and collegiate team. All the instructors at Austin JOAD Archers have been trained and certified as coaches/instructors by USA Archery, and have competed in state and national tournaments. Every week there are kids and adults beginning. If you are a first-time qualifier, please register on the homepage. As you progress, we reward you for doing your personal best with USA Archery Star Pins and Austin JOAD Archers certificates. So come join us for some fun !
Classes are held on the weekends for recurve, compound, and barebow archers with different levels of experience. (All of us started at some point as a beginner!) Also remember before you come each week, please check this website for the latest messages and news !!!! |
